Monument to Ermek Serkebayev unveiled in Almaty

On January 16, Almaty hosted the grand opening of a monument to the outstanding opera singer, actor, and teacher Ermek Serkebayev.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev, brother of the singer Murat Serkebayev and son Baygali Serkebayev, as well as representatives of the creative intelligentsia, residents and guests of the city.
The monument is located on Abylai Khan Avenue in front of the Kurmangazy Kazakh State Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments.
Minister Aida Balayeva noted that by unveiling the monument, Kazakhstan pays tribute to its great son and expressed the hope that his rich spiritual heritage will forever remain in the memory of the people.
"Ermek Serkebayev possessed a rare talent and high professionalism, which allowed him to win the sincere love of millions of art fans. Today, it is difficult for us to imagine Kazakh opera without Ermek Serkebayev. His biography is a whole chapter in the cultural history of our country. Not everyone knows that he led an active social and political life and made a great contribution to the formation and strengthening of our Independence. Let's not forget that Ermek Bekmukhamedovich became the founder of a dynasty of gifted musicians – children and grandchildren continue his work with dignity and glorify Kazakh art in different countries," said the Minister of Culture and Information.
The head of the department expressed special gratitude to the sculptors who embodied the image of Ermek Serkebayev in bronze – Aidos Burkitbayev, Timur Ermukhametov, Akylbek Ormanbekov and Kuanysh Asylbai.
