In Kazakhstan, including the capital, the international action "16 days of active action against violence" is taking place these days. In Astana, comprehensive assistance to women and children faced with domestic violence is provided on an ongoing basis at the Umit crisis center, the official website of the city akimat reports.
The crisis center has been operating since 2013. It is designed for 70 places and operates within the framework of the state standard for the provision of social services.
"We provide accommodation, five meals a day and comprehensive support. Our main task is not only to provide a safe haven, but also to help people rebuild their lives," said Galikhan Kukanbekov, director of the center.
An individual rehabilitation plan is developed for each applicant. The stay at the center lasts from one to six months, after which specialists continue to accompany clients throughout the year. The Center provides assistance in eight areas: household, medical, psychological, economic, legal, cultural, labor and educational services.
This year, 16 people were employed, 12 children were placed in kindergartens, and 13 were transferred to the nearest schools. Four families received subsidies for rental housing, and two passed a competition under the "Rent-free housing" program.
In addition, the center actively cooperates with medical institutions where the wards of the center can be examined and receive qualified medical care.
The center provides complete privacy. Requests can be anonymous, data is encrypted, and the right to refuse to disclose information is strictly respected. Two psychologists work here, using methods such as art therapy, meditation and Gestalt therapy.
"In 2024, we helped 47 women and 106 children. Our goal is to give people a chance to start a new life and feel that they are not alone," the director notes.
Victims of domestic violence between the ages of 18 and 58 can contact the center on their own initiative or on the direction of the education, health and internal affairs authorities.
You can contact the center by phone: +7 7172 49-78-89.
From November 25 to December 10, the capital hosts the international action "16 days of active action against violence", which aims to eliminate domestic violence and support children's rights.
