On the night of January 18-19, Orthodox Christians celebrate one of the main holidays – the Epiphany of the Lord, the official website of the metropolitan akimat reports.
In Astana, festive divine services are held at the Assumption Cathedral (Kuishi Dina Street, 27), the St. Elenino Church (Republic Avenue, 12), the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov (Bogenbai Batyr Avenue, 8).
Baptismal fonts were equipped for safe bathing during Epiphany bathing. Epiphany bathing takes place in specially designated places in Astana.
Hundreds of residents and guests of the capital gathered in places of mass bathing to plunge into the Baptismal font. Ice holes for mass bathing are installed on the left bank of the Yesil River, in the area of the Stolichny Park embankment (near the central beach).
Bathing places became available after the consecration of the water from 20:00 hours on January 18 to 02:00 hours on January 19. Mass bathing will also continue from 08:00 a.m. to 23:00 p.m. on January 19.
The water Rescue service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and employees of the Astana City Police Department ensure the safety of residents during the religious ceremony. Ambulance crews are on duty at Epiphany bathing sites.
Each organized bathing area is equipped with special approaches with floorboards on the ice and safe descents and places for changing clothes.
If necessary, rescuers and doctors are ready to place people in heating points and provide medical assistance.
