Almaty showed dynamic socio-economic development in 2024. The city's short-term economic indicator exceeded the forecast growth rate of 5.5%, amounting to 8.3%. The growth drivers were an increase in the volume of transport services by 25.3%, construction by 17% and trade by 8.6%.
In the first 9 months of 2024, the gross regional product of Almaty increased by 3.8% in real terms. By the end of 2024, the city's GRP growth is estimated at 5.8% -6%, and economic growth is projected to accelerate to 6.4% in 2025.
Thanks to the dynamic growth of the city's economy, local budget revenues are increasing. In 2024, the budget of Almaty received 1,874 billion tenge of taxes and payments with an increase of 24%. The main revenues - about 70% - are provided through the development of SMEs.
For 9 months of 2024, the incomes of Almaty residents averaged 335 thousand tenge with a real increase of 10.2%. The average monthly salary in real terms increased by 6.1% to 470 thousand tenge compared to the same period of the previous year.
In 2024, 73.9 thousand jobs were created, of which 83.2% were permanent jobs (61.5 thousand). As a result, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.6% in the third quarter of 2024.
Business and investment activity remains high.
In 2024, investments in fixed assets increased by 8.2% due to significant growth in investments in manufacturing (2.9 times growth), education (by 84.7%), transport (by 37.5%), healthcare (by 31.3%). About 90% are private investments, which grew by 6.2%.
The favorable investment climate of the city is confirmed by its high credit rating. On December 6, 2024, Fitch Ratings confirmed the independent credit rating of Almaty at BBB+, with a Stable outlook.
The active development of small and medium-sized businesses continues, where more than 80% of permanent jobs have been created. In 2024, 53.1 billion tenge was allocated from the budget for subsidizing, guaranteeing and lending, which allowed supporting 2507 new SME projects.
The development of the manufacturing industry is one of the main priorities for diversifying the city's economy. 67 projects are being implemented in the Industrial Zone of Almaty, in which 485 billion tenge has been invested and 11.6 thousand jobs have been created. In 2025, it is planned to commission 15 projects worth 197 billion tenge, with the creation of 2,700 jobs. 13 projects worth 31 billion tenge are being implemented in the PIT FEZ with the creation of 220 jobs. Of these, 5 projects worth 10 billion tenge are planned to be commissioned this year with the creation of 361 jobs.
According to the approved Master Plan until 2040, which provides for a decrease in building density and an increase in green areas, in 2024 there was a decrease in the volume of housing commissioned by 10.3% - 2.4 million square meters were commissioned. m versus 2.67 million sq . m . m in 2023.
In general, all the parameters of economic growth and budget revenues set for 2024 have been met, and the dynamic development of socio-economic indicators will continue this year.
