According to Deputy Akim of Almaty Beibut Shakhanov, municipal services of the city promptly started clearing streets, roads and sidewalks. Snow removal work will be carried out around the clock.

"Today, from 9:00 a.m., snow began to fall in the city and in mountainous areas, which will last up to two days. The total precipitation is expected to be up to 20 mm. This is a significant amount, so we have a lot of work ahead of us. Since the morning, the municipal services have carried out a preliminary treatment of the streets with anti-icing agents to ensure the safety of movement. The main work will begin after the snow accumulates. We will start clearing the main and central streets, form snow banks and organize snow removal," said the Deputy akim of Almaty.
Cleaning technology and forecasts
According to Kazhydromet, on January 23 and 24 in Almaty, the air temperature is expected to drop to -15... -20 degrees. At the moment, the roads are being treated with anti-icing materials. 152 sand spreaders are involved. 950 tons of deicing materials and 60 m3 of liquid reagents were consumed. 46 operational teams are working on dangerous sections of roads, which patrol the condition of the road surface.
General cleaning of main streets will take up to 3 days, and of streets of regional significance – up to 7 days.
"At the moment, more than 600 units of special equipment are working on the roads, about 1.5 thousand people are involved in the daytime. Work will continue at night, until the snow is completely removed from the city. We have organized a round—the-clock duty in the akimats of the districts to monitor the cleaning," Beibut Shakhanov added.
"We understand that the snowfall creates temporary inconveniences for the townspeople. We ask you to understand the work of public utilities and provide assistance: do not park cars at the roadsides so that the equipment can do its job unhindered," the deputy akim emphasized.
