The Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the Mayor's Office of the capital held a meeting with the staff of the College of Service and Tourism of Astana within the framework of the announced Year of Working Professions. The event was held under the motto "Professional development of youth is the key to a successful future," the official website of the city akimat reports.
The main focus of the meeting was on increasing the importance of vocational education and discussing issues related to the role of women in the economy, employment and personal development.
"The Commission got acquainted with the activities of the college, with its technical equipment. All conditions are created here for studying, as well as for practical exercises. Workshops are available for each specialty. Moreover, we have signed a memorandum between the college and the Commission on Women's Affairs. As part of our cooperation, we have invited representatives of the business community. Thus, students of this college will undergo practical training at enterprises with which contracts have been signed today. Social partners will provide their own platforms for learning and student development. Our commission has established contact with the public and the state institution today," said Karlygash Sarkenova, Secretary of the Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy of Astana.
In turn, Saltanat Basygaraeva, the director of the college, informed those present about the work of the college and conducted a tour of the workshops, of which there are at least a dozen.
There is a Boitumar club for girls at the college. Here, future housewives knit, embroider and weave jewelry from beads. In between classes, students relax in the coworking center, where they can also prepare for classes. There is a chess club, and for sports enthusiasts there is a gym and a swimming pool. For those who study in the specialty "Hotel business", a workshop with a hotel room and reception has been created so that students can practice their specialty.
A catering workshop has been opened for chefs, where they improve their skills on products grown in the college greenhouse. Today, the guests were offered freshly squeezed juice and bread of various types, such as beetroot, pumpkin and carrot.
There is a maintenance workshop for future car mechanics, where there are simulators and even a real car to disassemble and assemble all the parts in practice. In the landscape design workshop, students learn how to lay bricks and create beautiful public spaces. To do this, there are all the necessary equipment and tools, and different types of flowers. Future florists and flower growers also have their own competence center. Here they make panels and flower compositions, learn how to work with epoxy resin, gypsum and isolon.
"Currently, 1,060 students are studying at the college in 10 specialties and 16 qualifications, including 756 students in the specialty "Worker". 537 students, or 49%, study at the college in a dual form. Within its framework, 50 students will master the profession of workers in the specialties "Catering" and "Maintenance, repair and operation of vehicles," said the director of the educational institution.
