Today, akim of the region nurlybek Nalibayev met with the general director of the Semizbay U uranium deposit Birzhan Satanov and Deputy Kairat Utyapov. At the meeting, issues of economic development of the region, social programs, ecology and partnership with the mayor's office were discussed.
The parties considered plans to increase tax revenues, improve production efficiency, provide grants for employment and training, protect the environment, and reduce the environmental impact.
Particular attention was paid to joint projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the local population.
Semizbay-U partnership was established in 2006 for the development of a uranium deposit in Akmola region. The founders are NAC Kazatomprom, Beijing Sino-Kaz Uranium Resources Investment Company Limited. It includes the Semizbay field in Akmola region, the Semizbay branch in North Kazakhstan region, and the Iirkol field in Kyzylorda region. The main activity is the extraction and processing of uranium, the preparation and sale of products from uranium-containing ores.
The iirkol field was discovered in 1971, and drilling exploration was carried out in 1975-1985. The USSR state reserves Commission approved the volume of uranium reserves at 29,541 tons. The field was put into operation in 2008, and in 2010 the design capacity reached 700 tons.
