In the current heating season, the launch of sensors for detecting dangerous concentrations of gas and combustion products prevented poisoning and death of 17 people. The launch of sensors was recorded in the cities of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Abay, Akmola and East Kazakhstan regions.
Violation of fire safety requirements during the installation and operation of furnace equipment can lead to a dangerous gas leak into the premises. This gas is invisible to the naked eye, has no smell and can cause poisoning without any obvious signs. A person poisoned by odorous gas does not know what he is sick of.
Gas concentration sensors are good helpers in preventing poisoning events. In case of odorous gas formation in the room, the device warns residents with sound signals. This will help to act in a timely manner and eliminate the cause of gas formation.
During the preparation period for the heating season, the Departments of the Ministry of emergency situations together with local executive bodies and volunteers installed more than 30 thousand odorous, natural gas sensors and smoke detectors in the homes of socially vulnerable groups. This made it possible to significantly reduce the risk of poisoning and prevent possible tragedies.
Since the introduction of the experience of installing sensors, a total of 55 cases of sensor activation have been recorded, thanks to which acute poisoning and possible death of 248 people have been avoided.
The Ministry of emergency situations continues to carry out preventive measures to install sensors and teach the population safety rules.
To reduce the risk of smelly gas poisoning, it is enough to follow a few simple rules:
- use ovens in accordance with safety requirements;
- clean the chimneys in a timely manner and regularly check the operation of the ventilation system;
- entrust the installation and repair of stoves and fireplaces to specialists.
Following these recommendations will help prevent tragedies and save human lives.
