Kazakhstan has introduced strict restrictions on advertising of bookmakers and sweepstakes. The progress in meeting the requirements of the legislation was reviewed at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tamara Duisenova.
Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports Miras Tulebayev noted that in order to ensure the implementation of legislation, the agency, together with regional and city akimats, as well as the Ministry of Culture and Information, regularly monitors outdoor advertising and domestic media. As a result of this work, more than 1.6 thousand billboards were dismantled. In 2024, over 10,000 websites advertising illegal gambling and betting were added to the Cybernadzor information system for subsequent blocking.
"Citizens who notice illegal advertising of betting shops on the streets or in the media can file a complaint with the Ministry. If there is sufficient evidence, the agency sends requests to the relevant akimats and the Ministry of Culture and Information to collect the materials necessary to initiate an administrative offense case," Miras Tulebayev explained.
The Deputy Prime Minister instructed the interested state bodies and regional akimats to carefully monitor compliance with the requirements of the legislation.
"Advertising in unauthorized places should not be allowed. Several thousand websites were reported to be blocked. However, there are still advertisements for betting shops on the Internet. In this regard, line ministries should strengthen their monitoring efforts," Tamara Duissenova emphasized.
According to the restrictions, advertising of betting shops and sweepstakes is prohibited in open spaces, building facades, vehicles and exterior structures, with the exception of the locations of betting shops or sweepstakes, inside sports facilities and on athletes' equipment. Logos and trademarks of betting shops cannot be used in advertising of other businesses, etc.
It should be noted that in accordance with article 455 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, the fine for distributing advertising of betting shops ranges from 236 thousand to 1.5 million tenge.
