During the meeting, the parties discussed the main areas of cooperation in the field of intellectual property rights development.
Minister Yerlan Sarsembayev noted that the development of WIPO partnership is a strategic priority for Kazakhstan, contributing to the development of the national intellectual property system and the intellectual potential of the region. The meeting discussed this year's projects and initiatives. Among them were the creation of new Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs), the implementation of the WIPO Master's Program in Intellectual Property and Business, as well as Kazakhstan's participation in the ALERT project to combat unlicensed online content.
The Minister noted Kazakhstan's active steps in the field of intellectual property. Among such achievements is the approval of the ratification of the WIPO Marrakesh Treaty by the Parliament of Kazakhstan on January 16, 2025. He noted that this was an important step in ensuring equal access to published works for people with visual impairments and Kazakhstan's adherence to international standards in this area.
Yerlan Sarsembayev noted that, thanks to active work with WIPO, Kazakhstan has improved its position in the Global Innovation Index, moving from 81st to 78th place, and intends to continue working in this direction.
In addition, plans were discussed to hold joint international events within the framework of the visit of WIPO Director General Daren Tang to Kazakhstan to participate in the Astana International Forum, scheduled for May 29-30, 2025. For the first time, a separate panel session on intellectual property issues will be organized within the framework of this forum.
