Meeting with the Ambassador of Finland

Today, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, E. Nysanbayev, met with the Ambassador of Finland, Janne Heiskanen.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the work of the Intergovernmental Commission, which is the driving force of mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership.
During the regular meeting of the commission, held in April 2024, a wide range of areas were discussed, including water resources management, renewable energy sources, sustainable forest use, etc.
In addition, Minister E. Nysanbayev proposed holding an online meeting at the expert level to study Finland's experience in the field of wood certification and supervision.
The meeting also focused on the implementation of commitments under the Paris Agreement and the implementation of the carbon neutrality strategy in Kazakhstan until 2060. Particular attention will be paid to adaptation to climate change, as our country faces challenges such as extreme weather events, floods, and ecosystem degradation.
The Minister called on Finland to actively participate in the work of the Regional Climate Committee to be held under the auspices of the UN in 2026.
At the end of the meeting, the parties noted their readiness to further deepen fruitful interaction and partnership in all these areas, and their confidence that combining the efforts of our countries will contribute to successful adaptation to climate change, reduce risks, and strengthen the stability of ecosystems.
