The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan has proposed changes to the law to improve the seismic safety of the country

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by Vice Minister Batyrbek Abdyshev, held a meeting of the Interdepartmental State Commission for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations. During the meeting, issues of ensuring the seismic safety of the country were discussed.
The meeting was held in a video-selector format with the participation of representatives of central government agencies, deputy akims of regions, akims of Almaty and Shymkent cities, as well as heads of emergency situations in earthquake-prone regions. The reports of the participants touched upon the work on seismic safety and modernization of the network of seismological observations.
The heads of the Ministries of Emergency Situations, digital Development, science and higher education, industry and construction, as well as local executive bodies proposed measures to strengthen seismic safety and develop the infrastructure of seismological research.
As noted by Deputy Chairman of the Emergency Prevention Committee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Aibol Akparov: "Two cities of national importance and 13 regions of the country are exposed to seismic danger. To comprehensively solve the problems of seismic safety, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved a comprehensive plan for the development of the seismological industry for 2024-2028. As part of this plan, measures are envisaged to assess seismic risk, predict earthquake damage and expand the monitoring network."
Also, as part of the amendments to the Law "On Civil Protection", the Ministry of Emergency Situations proposed to introduce a separate chapter regulating seismic safety and the relationship between the state, entrepreneurs and the population in this area.
Following the meeting, Vice Minister of Emergency Situations Batyrbek Abdyshev instructed interested state bodies and organizations to take measures to implement the proposed measures aimed at improving public safety and reducing the impact of seismic phenomena.
The meeting ended with the adoption of a protocol decision.
