A local history drawing room dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Priirtyshye Local History Society was held in the hall of the Abai Library. Over two decades, the society has brought together more than two dozen enthusiasts who volunteer to conduct research and educational work dedicated to the study and preservation of the history of their native land.
At the event, Akim of the region Nurlan Urankhaev congratulated local historians on their achievements and presented them with memorable gifts. The exhibition, organized as part of the event, allowed participants to get acquainted with the unique finds and research carried out over 20 years.
"I congratulate you on this significant event and wish you good spirits, good health and success. We will continue to provide maximum support to all activities related to the preservation of our cultural and historical heritage. Everything else is your strength, enthusiasm, and dedication. I wish that these qualities are always with you. Thank you for your work and contribution to the development of the city!", the governor of the region congratulated.
Local history is an extensive field of activity, covering not only history, but also archaeology, botany, zoology, climate research, as well as cultural and industrial heritage. Each member of the society contributes to the study and popularization of the rich history of the Irtysh region. Two decades ago, lovers of their native land decided to combine their knowledge and efforts for the development of the local history movement in Semey.
One of the priorities of the society's work has become the preservation of the ancient buildings of the city. Thanks to the efforts of local historians in Semey, it was possible to preserve a number of historical buildings, and one of the buildings was awarded the status of an architectural monument.
