In order to regulate the number of stray animals in Astana, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Responsible Care of Animals", work is being carried out on a regular basis to capture, temporarily detain, vaccinate and sterilize animals. This was stated by Samat Abdullin, Deputy Head of the Department for Environmental Protection and Nature Management Regulation, at a briefing held at the capital's communications service, the official website of the city akimat reports.
"During hunting, nets, hooks, and mesh traps are used that do not lead to the death of the animal.
Applications for hunting stray dogs and cats are accepted by the iKomek 109 monitoring service center, as well as the working phone of the Astana city akimat's state enterprise with the right of economic management "Astana Vetservice".
The captured animals are necessarily chipped, registered in the unified database of domestic animals "Tangba" and handed over to the kennel. In 2024, 9 thousand stray animals were microchipped. "The database contains 37,864 owned and stray animals, of which 19,844 are dogs and 18,020 are cats," said Samat Abdullin.
In order to ensure veterinary safety, preventive measures against rabies and deworming of dogs and cats are carried out annually. In 2024, 17 thousand owned and captured stray dogs and cats were vaccinated.
