A 69-year-old man with a severe eye injury was admitted to the Central City Clinical Hospital in Almaty.
According to the patient, he hit the corner of the table, which led to serious damage to the visual organ.
The diagnosis was extremely difficult: severe contusion of the eyeball with rupture of the sclera, prolapse of the inner membranes of the eye, post-traumatic aphakia, aniridia, hemophthalmos and retinal detachment.
At the first stage, the man underwent primary surgical treatment of the sclera wound.
This was followed by a high—tech operation that included vitrectomy with silicone injection, laser retinal coagulation (ELCS) and a unique procedure - implantation of an iridochrustal diaphragm.
An individual kit was specially made for the patient: an artificial iris and a lens.
The operation was performed by Gulzat Abdraimova, head of the Ophthalmology department.
Thanks to the high professionalism of the specialists, the patient was not only saved from complete loss of vision, but also restored his visual functions.
"I want to thank the entire staff of the Central City Clinical Hospital, and especially Gulzat Abdraimova. The diagnosis sounded like a verdict, but the doctors surrounded me with attention and did the impossible — they returned my eyesight, they are real professionals," the patient left such a review after the operation.
It is worth noting that the operation was carried out within the framework of the compulsory social health insurance (OSMS) system and it is a high-tech procedure.
