Passengers of trains No. 3/4 running on the Astana-Almaty route were connected to the Internet. This flight was carried out as part of a pilot project to introduce modern digital technologies in railway transport.
This was made possible thanks to an agreement between the Central Railways and Eutelsat-OneWeb. This project is aimed at providing stable and high-speed access to remote regions of the country where traditional methods of connecting to the Internet are limited or unavailable.
Minister of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiev and Chairman of the Board of Passenger Transport JSC Anuar Akhmetzhanov tested the new technology for connecting to the network using Wi-Fi.
The Internet on trains is connected using modern satellite technologies, which will allow passengers to use instant messengers, video hosting and other online services during the trip.
“We are pleased that our plans to connect to satellite communication with Eutelsat-OneWeb are being implemented. As you know, the territory of our country is vast and the steppe is inaccessible to the Internet, now there is an opportunity to connect to it on trains and use online services during the trip, ”said the Minister of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiev at a meeting with passengers.
Many passengers were able to make instant calls to their friends via WhatsApp video calls, watch YouTube videos and use other popular services. Passengers noted that the new service makes the trip more convenient, especially on long routes.
The Internet connection speed was 50-100 Mb/s, which ensures convenient use of the Internet, but access to torrents and streaming downloads will be limited.
It should be noted that the project was implemented in one train No. 3/4 “Astana-Almaty” and will be expanded to other routes after the successful completion of the pilot phase, which is in line with the strategic direction of the National Carrier “KTZ” JSC to introduce modern technologies and improve the quality of service
The Eutelsat-OneWeb satellite network management center is located in the Kokterek satellite network and provides coverage not only of Kazakhstan, but also of the entire Central Asian region.
The Internet connection project is being implemented by the official OneWeb partner in Kazakhstan, Jusan Mobile. Eutelsat-OneWeb is actively used in aviation, maritime transport and corporate sectors, which demonstrates its versatility and reliability.
