Kazakhstani athletes will participate in the Winter Asian Games for the sixth time. Our compatriots first performed at the Games in Harbin in 1996.
To date, our compatriots have won 196 medals (78 gold, 62 silver and 56 bronze) at the Winter Asian Games. At the 2017 Games in Sapporo, the Kazakh national team won 32 medals and took 4th place in the overall team standings.
138 athletes (72 men and 66 women) from the Kazakh national team will participate in the Winter Asian Games in Harbin. Our compatriots will compete in 10 disciplines in 6 sports, competing for 51 medal sets.
More than 1,000 athletes from 32 Asian countries will participate in the Games, competing for 64 medal sets.
Ski mountaineering is included in the program of the Asian Games for the first time.
More than half of the delegation going to Harbin are athletes from Astana, Almaty and the East Kazakhstan region. Athletes from 10 other regions will also perform.
The flag bearers are Adil Beketaev (ice hockey) and Olga Tikhonova (short track).
The current team includes athletes who have won medals at previous Asian Winter Games:

• Evgeny Rymarev (ice hockey, 2011 champion)
• Roman Starchenko (ice hockey, 2011 champion)
• Daria Klimina (biathlon, 2017 champion)
• Kirill Savitsky (ice hockey, 2017 champion)
• Dmitry Grents (ice hockey, 2017 champion)
The youngest athlete is Asan Asylkhan (freestyle acrobatics, 15 years old).

The opening ceremony (February 7) and closing ceremony (February 14) of the Asian Games will be held at the Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Centre Stadium in Harbin.
The mascots of the Asian Games are the Siberian tigers Bingbing and Nini. The motto is "Winter Dream and Love in Asia".
Harbin, China, will host the Winter Asian Games for the second time this year. Previously, the city hosted the 1996 Asian Games. In general, this is the third time that China has hosted the winter games.
The ceremonial part of the Asian Games and competitions will be held at 7 sports venues. Namely: Harbin Hockey Arena; Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Centre; Pingfang District Hockey Arena in Harbin; Harbin Sport University Ice Rink; Heilongjiang Multi-Function Hall; Heilongjiang Training Centre Ice Competition Hall; Yabuli Ski Resort.
