Currently, there is high demand for Kazakhstani potatoes from neighboring countries. According to the results of 2024, about 605 thousand tons of potatoes were exported, which is 1.5 times more than in 2023 (411 thousand tons). This indicator has reached a record level in the last 10 years and has had a significant impact on prices in the domestic market.
In this regard, in order to stabilize the market situation and prevent price increases, by the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations of January 18, 2025, a restriction was introduced on the export of potatoes from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan to third countries by all types of transport, except for the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, for a period of 6 months.
Based on the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission, the export of potatoes to third countries by all types of transport was prohibited by the Order of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 26 dated January 27, 2025 “On issues of exporting potatoes from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
The measures taken will prevent a speculative increase in potato prices and possible speculative actions by market participants.
