The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation plans to develop an information system on water resources by the end of the year. This system will digitize and include 17,736 rivers and 2,949 small lakes, the border of the Caspian and Aral Seas, 8 water management basins and 77 water management sites, 377 main canals, 56 ponds, 297 reservoirs and 548 dams in Kazakhstan.
The Water Resources Information and Analytical Center, a subordinate organization of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, is also involved in this work. The institution will be engaged in the collection and processing of all data in the field of water management, short- and long-term forecasting, modeling and other work.
The information system being developed will allow modernizing water management, increasing the efficiency of water resource use and forecasting, as well as monitoring their current condition. The main task of the system is to ensure transparency, automation and analysis when making decisions related to the use and protection of water resources.
"The introduction of the system will allow creating a single digital platform for accounting and management of water resources, increasing the transparency and efficiency of their use, as well as making more qualitative analysis and forecasting for the prevention of emergencies. Today, the development of modules for water accounting and operational monitoring of the current state of water resources is being completed. After this work is completed, it is planned to test the system and train users," said Aslan Abdraimov, Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
