January 30, 2025 is the second day of the Methane Emissions Regulation Workshop. The focus is on the coal sector, its challenges and prospects for reducing methane emissions.
During the discussion, experiences were presented on solving the problematic issues of methane emissions in the coal industry, prospects for regulating the sector and support measures were considered. Special attention was paid to modern technologies for monitoring emissions, including satellite monitoring and remote sensing.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), as well as the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the coal sector. Experts and participants exchanged international experience and discussed further steps in developing effective mechanisms for regulating methane emissions in the coal sector.
The results of the workshop will serve as the basis for developing future policies and initiatives to reduce methane emissions in Kazakhstan.
