Snow began falling in Almaty at 5 am and will continue until the night of February 1. According to the Kazhydromet RSE, the amount of precipitation may reach 8-9 mm.
In order to prevent ice and ensure road safety, roads were treated with 180 m³ of liquid reagent before the snowfall. 152 special equipment was deployed to spread a sand-salt mixture on the road, and as of 5:00 p.m., 1,250 tons of anti-icing material had been used.
To quickly eliminate snow accumulation, 46 emergency teams are working in an enhanced mode on dangerous road sections, on descent and ascent zones, and on turning sections of intersections. They are on duty around the clock.
During the day, 455 units of special equipment and 1,060 road workers were involved in snow removal work. Also, 95 units of small-scale equipment are used for mechanized cleaning of pedestrian paths, public places, public transport stops and overpasses.
A 24-hour duty has been organized in all district akimats of the city to monitor snow removal work.
According to Kazhydromet, today it will snow at times at a moderate rate, reaching 5-6 mm by 20:00. Snow will fall again on January 31, with an additional 3 mm of precipitation possible.
On January 30, the air temperature will be around 0°C. On the night of January 31, the temperature will drop to -6…-8°C, and during the day it will remain between -2…-4°C.
The Almaty City Communal Infrastructure Development Department calls on city residents and guests to be careful on the road, follow traffic rules and take into account the weather when traveling.
