The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The document was signed at the One Water Summit, which is being held in Saudi Arabia with the participation of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of France Emmanuel Macron.
The memorandum provides for the exchange of experience and best practices in water resources management, flood and drought risk management, irrigation efficiency improvement, as well as digitalization of accounting and monitoring of water resources. The parties will cooperate in organizing joint trainings, seminars, working meetings and conferences to deepen knowledge in the field of water resources management and engineering.
Cooperation in the field of research, innovation and technology is also envisaged. In particular, in the field of data collection using remote sensing.
"The memorandum is aimed at cooperation in improving environmental conditions and water resources management, including in the Northern Aral Sea. The document provides for the joint development of measures aimed primarily at improving the quality of life in the Aral Sea basin and nearby regions. Joint work with foreign partners plays an important role in the preservation of the Aral Sea, and the Ministry actively involves international organizations and financial institutions in this process," said Bolat Bekniyaz, First Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
