The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation plans to release 2.5 billion cubic meters of water this year to preserve the local ecosystem.

In 2024, 1.5 billion cubic meters of water were released for this purpose. For example, 889 million cubic meters of water were sent to preserve the lake system of Kyzylorda region, 87.5 million cubic meters to the mouths of the Shiderty River in Pavlodar region, and 29.7 million cubic meters to the Nura River to improve the ecological condition of the lakes of the Tengiz-Korgalzhyn State Reserve.

90 million cubic meters of water were sent to the Elek River in Aktobe region. 144 million cubic meters were sent from the water management facilities of Turkestan region, and 133 million cubic meters of water was sent from the facilities of the Kazsuchar branch of the D. Kunayev Greater Almaty Canal.

“Our ministry plans to fill 219 lakes with water, provide water to more than 204.2 thousand hectares of meadows and 5.23 thousand hectares of forest land. This will improve the ecological condition and water supply in areas located near water sources. "The implementation of all measures will effectively contribute to reducing the risk of drought, improving the quality of forage lands, and the sustainable development of agriculture and the local ecosystem," said Kudaibergen Korganbayev, Director of the Department of Water Resources Development.
