Last weekend, a Kazakhstan-Iran business forum was held in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It brought together more than 50 Kazakhstani businessmen and 230 Iranian business representatives. The forum was organized under the chairmanship of the Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Shakkaliev and the Minister of Agriculture of Iran Gholamrez Nouri Gezelje. The parties noted the significant potential for mutually beneficial cooperation and stressed the importance of further developing trade and economic relations between the two countries.
The forum included B2B meetings, as well as a signing ceremony. During the Kazakhstan trade and economic mission, 10 commercial documents worth a total of 92.8 million US dollars were signed, which is an important step in strengthening trade relations between Iran and Kazakhstan. In turn, Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to supply 75 types of products to the Iranian market for $ 250 million.
As part of the working visit, Arman Shakkaliev held negotiations with representatives of the central government bodies of Iran, including the Ministers of Agriculture, Industry, Mines and Trade, as well as the Minister of Roads and Urban Development.
Kazakhstan continues to attach great importance to the development of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, as well as to increasing supplies of agricultural products to Iran. For example, according to the results of last year, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $ 340 million, which is 12.3% more than the previous year. During a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture of Iran, Gholamreza Nouri Gezeljeh, the General Director of the Center for the Development of Trade Policy of QazTrade JSC, Aitmuhamed Aldazharov, proposed opening a partnership office of the National Institute for the Promotion of Export of Goods and Services of Kazakhstan, QazTrade, in Tehran. This office will allow Kazakhstani entrepreneurs to find new partners and effectively promote products on the Iranian market.
QazTrade is actively working to develop bilateral trade relations and has already organized three successful trade and economic missions to Iran. These are trade and economic missions held in 2021 (October 11-12), 2022 (February 21-22) and 2023 (April 24-26). As a result of these missions, significant contracts were signed: in 2021, 16 Kazakhstani manufacturers signed agreements worth more than $5 million, in 2022, 15 companies signed agreements worth more than $14 million, in 2023, 20 companies signed export contracts worth $60.4 million.
In addition, during the visit, the Minister of Trade of Kazakhstan met with the "Korafarin" Business Council, which includes 100 large Iranian businessmen. Arman Shakkaliev's working visit continues with his participation in the plenary session of the third Caspian Economic Forum, dedicated to the development of trade, industrial and agricultural cooperation between the countries of the Caspian region. The Minister stressed the importance of strengthening joint work within the TMT corridor, discussing issues such as establishing transitional tariffs, declaring cargo, using unified IT solutions, and releasing transit cargo.
