Today, a republican council was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov. The agenda included discussions on flood prevention measures.
The regional governor Nurlybek Nalibayev participated in the meeting via selector mode and reported on the state of water management in the region and flood prevention work.
"Currently, 650 cubic meters of water per second are released from the Shardara reservoir to the lower reaches of the Syrdarya River, of which 150 cubic meters are received by the Koksaray water regulator. 469 cubic meters of water per second are flowing into the region (242 cubic meters per second on February 12, 2024).
"The Plan for the Safe Transfer of Large Volumes of Water from the Syrdarya River in the Winter-Spring Period of 2024-2025" was approved. A schedule of water withdrawals from main canals and lakes has been developed to reduce the water level. After clearing the ice, up to 1,000 cubic meters of water per second can be received.
135 responsible institutions with sufficient special equipment and resources have been assigned to 29 areas at risk of flooding. They have 410 special equipment and 1,234 people. A stock of 129.7 tons of fuel, 95,110 bags and other materials used to combat flooding has been fully prepared. There are 61 evacuation depots and 71 reception points. The state of water management in the region is under constant control, there is no danger,” said N. Nalibayev.
It should be noted that relevant specialists (Kyzylorda branches of RSE Kazhydromet and Kazsuchar) conduct daily monitoring of the water level at 10 stations and 4 nodes in the Syrdarya River channel. Local executive bodies and water management specialists are on duty around the clock.
A contract has also been signed with a specialized organization for ice breaking.
Last year, funds were allocated from the regional budget for the repair and restoration of protective dams at 3 facilities, and similar work was carried out at 20 facilities at the expense of extrabudgetary sources.
There are 37 hydraulic structures in the region, 3 municipal reservoirs have been inspected and safety declarations have been issued. Funds are being considered for this year's major repairs.
