Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Kazakhstan Sylvain Giogue, with whom he discussed various areas of bilateral cooperation.
In particular, the Ministry is preparing to sign a memorandum and a trilateral cooperation agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research of France (BRGM). A comprehensive study of the Ile-Balkhash basin will be conducted jointly with these organizations. Cooperation will also be established in the study, monitoring, exploration and extraction of groundwater.
In addition, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is working on options for cooperation with the International Bureau of Water (OiEau).
Silvan Giogue, in turn, said that French companies want to participate in projects for the construction and reconstruction of water facilities in Kazakhstan. Companies involved in leak detection and optimization of water management are also showing interest.
"The signing of the memorandum and agreement will be an important step for our cooperation. We are focused on long–term and fruitful work with our French colleagues," said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
