In accordance with the instructions of the Head of state, the "Concept for the development of physical culture and mass sports for 2023-2029" was developed and approved by the government. This was told by the head of the Department of Sports and Physical Culture Yerzhan Abylkasimov during an expanded staff meeting of the akimat of the Abai region.
By the end of 2024, 244 thousand people regularly play sports in the Abai region, of which 131 thousand live in rural areas. 40% of the region's residents are systematically engaged in physical education. To date, the provision of the population with sports infrastructure per 1000 people has reached 52%. Two years ago, this figure was 38%. This became possible due to the active construction of large sports complexes in rural settlements. There are 610 sports facilities in the region, including stadiums, swimming pools, hockey courts, racetracks and tennis courts. Of these, 472 are in rural settlements.
In 2024, key facilities such as a sports module in the village of Taskesken, a multifunctional complex in the village of Shulbinsk, built with the support of the Samruk-Kazyna Foundation, and a sports hall in the village of Barkytbel, reconstructed at the expense of sponsors, were opened in the region.
Currently, construction work is underway on a sports and recreation complex in Kurchatov, a swimming pool in Beskaragai village, a sports and leisure center in Petropavlovsk village of Borodulikhinsky district, a sports module in Kokbai village of Abai district. Similar projects are planned to be implemented in other districts in 2025. Large investors have already begun construction of a full-size football arena in Semey. Design and estimate documentation is also being developed for 12 new facilities, including an athletics complex and a roller ski track.
The issue of allocating funds from the republican budget for the construction of an ice module with stands for 500 spectators in the city of Semey is being considered. The land plot is being determined now.
The head of the region instructed the head of the department that the sports facilities to be built in our region should meet modern requirements and meet the needs of the population.
