The international conference "The Role of Women in Ensuring Peace and Security" was held in Astana as part of the campaign "16 active days against gender-based violence". Members of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of state and law enforcement agencies, diplomatic services, international organizations and scientists took part.
The topics of the conference were the role of women in the prevention of political and military conflicts, prevention of violence against girls and women, promotion of gender stereotypes, gender approach in law enforcement, women's leadership, etc.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Information spoke about legislative initiatives aimed at protecting women and children. They also discussed in detail the implementation of the National Plan "Women, Peace and Security", which was updated this year.
Thus, according to the Plan, training of peacekeepers, military personnel, law enforcement officers, press services and the media is being successfully conducted, and the number of women in the service is increasing. Seven female military personnel took part in UN missions in Western Sahara, Lebanon and Côte d'Ivoire. In total, 18 new items were included in the updated Plan.
It should be noted that in 2025, the world gender agenda will mark two significant dates, this is the 25th anniversary of resolution 1325 "Women. The World. Security" and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which are key international documents protecting women's rights.
