Our region is one of the fastest growing, with significant economic and industrial potential.
By the end of 2024, the growth of retail trade in Kostanay region amounted to 11.7% (691.2 billion tenge), wholesale – 10.4% (1,165.8 billion tenge). There is a positive trend in domestic trade indicators, which increased by 12.0% and amounted to more than 1.8 trillion tenge (2023 – 1.6 trillion tenge).
The region's foreign trade turnover is $4.7 billion. In the structure of trade turnover, export supplies account for 33.8%,
Import operations account for 66.2%. At the same time, the region's exports amounted to 1.6 billion US dollars, imports – 3.1 billion US dollars. There are 1,175 enterprises with foreign participation in the region.
The region's economy is showing steady growth and major investment projects are being implemented to ensure its further development. According to the results of last year, 9 key projects were commissioned in the industrial sector of the region with a total investment of 136 billion tenge and the creation of 1.5 thousand jobs. These are projects in the fields of mechanical engineering, metallurgy, light industry, as well as in the agro-industrial complex.
For example, during the implementation of the above-mentioned projects within the framework of industrial cooperation in the automotive sector, domestic manufacturers (SaryarkaAvtoProm LLP) involved foreign industrial concerns from the Czech Republic represented by SKODA, HONGQI from the People's Republic of China, as well as Uzavtosanoat from the Republic of Uzbekistan, the total volume of investments amounted to 38.7 billion tenge. The total production capacity is 50,000 vehicles per year and 650 jobs will be created.
In 2025, it is planned to launch 9 investment projects with a total investment of 286.8 billion tenge and the creation of 3.4 thousand jobs, of which the largest projects will also be implemented in the priority sectors of mechanical engineering and metallurgy for the region.
Thus, it is planned to implement a project to build a new KIA full-cycle car manufacturing plant, which will have a tangible positive effect on the economic development of the region and will contribute to increasing export potential. The volume of investments in the project is 90 billion tenge, the production capacity of 70 thousand cars per year and the creation of 1,500 jobs.
Another important project in the automotive sector is the construction of a Localization Center for the production of automotive components (TEHNOPARK KZ LLP), which will be aimed at supplying products mainly to the conveyors of Kazakhstani automobile plants, including the aforementioned KIA plant. This project is being implemented as part of the program for the creation of small industrial zones, where a distinctive feature will be the placement of domestic manufacturers from among small and medium-sized businesses on the site of this facility. The implementation of this project is aimed at import substitution and deepening localization.
In addition, two projects are planned to be launched in the field of metallurgy this year (KamLit KZ LLP): production of main gears of driving axles and in-depth localization of production of drive axle beams for trucks, with a production capacity of 74 thousand gearboxes and 90 thousand beams for trucks per year, with a total investment of 160.5 billion tenge with the creation of 650 jobs.
It should be noted that as a result of the implementation of these projects, in addition to increasing production volumes, the range of products is expanding due to the emergence of a new product range.
It should also be noted that in the coming years, 3 promising projects are planned to be implemented in the region in the field of deep metal processing and the development of the region's transport and logistics potential.
Such projects include the construction of a plant for the production of hot briquetted iron (JSC SSGPO) with a production capacity of 4 million tons, worth 920 billion tenge, with the creation of 1.1 thousand jobs.
The next project is the construction of a steelmaking plant for the production of steel billets (CASPIAN STEEL QZ LLP) with a production capacity of up to 1 million tons of products per year, the project cost is 308 billion tenge with the creation of 600 jobs.
The above-mentioned projects are capable of organizing a full technological cycle, starting from the extraction and processing of raw materials to the sale of finished products.
Increasing the volume of production and the range of goods produced requires providing the necessary logistical component. In this regard, it is planned to build a transport and logistics complex "Sukhoi port" on the territory of Kostanay worth about 37 billion tenge, with a capacity of about 400 thousand containers per year and the creation of 500 jobs. Given the advantageous economic and geographical location of the region, this project makes it possible to create an international logistics hub.
In general, a pool of 45 investment projects has been formed in the region with a total investment of more than 2.3 trillion tenge and the creation of 10.5 thousand jobs.

Kostanay region is a promising region for investing in various sectors of the economy, which is facilitated by its geographical location, developed infrastructure, rich natural resources and an actively developing industrial sector.
