Astana hosted a round table on the topic: "Ensuring the safety of women and children as the basis for sustainable development"

On November 29, 2024, as part of the international campaign "16 days of active action against violence", a round table was held on the issues of ensuring the safety of women and children.
The event was organized by the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the technical support of the UN Women Structure.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice Botagoz Zhakselekova, who noted in her speech that the protection of the rights of women and children is a key component of state policy in the field of human rights.
"Kazakhstan is making significant efforts to eliminate all forms of violence and create a safe environment for vulnerable groups of the population. The adopted legislative reforms and government measures are aimed at promoting equality, strengthening legal guarantees and preventing violence," Botagoz Zhakselekova stressed.
Among the key achievements, the Vice Minister highlighted:
- The adoption of the Law on the Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, which criminalizes domestic violence and strengthens measures to prevent bullying;
- Development and implementation of national human rights action plans aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for women;
- Creation of specialized units in the internal affairs bodies to combat domestic violence.
The participants of the round table discussed mechanisms of legal support, interaction of state bodies with civil society and international organizations, and outlined further steps to ensure security and equality.
"The Ministry of Justice continues to coordinate human rights initiatives, paying special attention to the protection of the rights of women and children. Our efforts are aimed at strengthening the legal culture and forming a society free from violence," the Vice Minister concluded.
The round table has become an important platform for consolidating the efforts of the State and society in the fight against violence.
