A meeting was held to prepare for the protection of the fourth periodic National report of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights

On December 5 of this year, a regular meeting was held at the site of the Consultative and Advisory Body under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs "Dialogue Platform on the Human Dimension" (CSR DPCHI) on the preparation for the protection in January 2025 of the fourth periodic National report of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights (UPR).
At the meeting, representatives of government agencies and civil society discussed an alternative report prepared by a Coalition of non-governmental organizations of Kazakhstan on the issues of ensuring and protecting economic, social and cultural human rights and the right to education.
It should be noted that according to the results of the last defense in 2019, Kazakhstan received 245 recommendations from the member states of the UN Human Rights Council, of which 72 recommendations were supported and implemented by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the above-mentioned areas.
Under the coordination of the Deputy Director of the NGO "Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights" R. Akylbekova R.M., experts from the NGO Coalition Z. Battalova and I. Mednikova, who were directly involved in the development of this Alternative Report.
In total, within the framework of the UPR, a Coalition of NGOs prepared and submitted to the UN HRC eight Alternative Reports, which contain an overall assessment of the situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan on ensuring and protecting human rights and freedoms in accordance with international obligations of the state, as well as an assessment of the implementation of recommendations given to the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the UPR.
It is important to emphasize that on the eve of the defense of the National Report at the UN Office in Geneva, all these eight reports, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice, were successfully reviewed at the sites of the National Center for Human Rights, the CSR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministries of Justice and Culture.
Following the meeting, the participants expressed their readiness for further fruitful cooperation in strengthening the protection of universal human rights.
