The Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with relevant state bodies and akimats, discussed measures to stabilize prices for socially significant food products. During the meeting, First Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aizhan Bizhanova noted that the dynamics of the growth of prices for food products has begun to slow down.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, as of February 18 of this year, the price index for food products increased by 2.6%, and by 0.4% in the last week, while 2 weeks ago this figure was 0.6%.
During the week, a decrease in prices was observed for corn (-0.2%), chicken (-0.1%), rice (-0.4%), potatoes (-0.4%), eggs (-0.5%) and carrots (-0.7%). Prices for bread and milk are stable. Low rates of price growth were recorded in Almaty, Akmola, East Kazakhstan and West Kazakhstan regions.
Regional akimats are actively working to organize agricultural fairs. These measures will help reduce prices and provide the population with affordable food products. The First Deputy Minister noted the need to strengthen these measures before the start of the new harvest.
During the meeting, joint decisions were made to organize regular fairs in places convenient for the population, involving agricultural producers without intermediaries, as well as to organize the purchase of sunflower oil from the funds of the Food Corporation Joint-Stock Company at affordable prices. In addition, algorithms for effective interaction with meat producers and cattle slaughterhouses in the regions and further sale of product volumes at trade facilities were discussed. The Turkestan region expressed its readiness to form a list of cabbage producers to organize the purchase of early-ripening cabbage under contracts.
The issues of compliance with tax legislation among trade entities were also discussed.
It should be noted that from mid-March, a fine will be imposed instead of a warning for exceeding the trade mark-up for socially significant food products. This will increase the responsibility of trade entities and strengthen administrative discipline.
The Ministry of Trade and Integration continues to take necessary measures to stabilize prices for socially significant food products in the Republic of Kazakhstan, while monitoring prices.
