Kazakhstan and Oman: new opportunities for cooperation
04.03.2025 01:14:41 517Astana, February 25, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtileu held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.
This is the first official visit of the head of the Omani foreign ministry to Kazakhstan, which is aimed at giving impetus to the revitalization of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed a wide range of issues related to political, economic, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for interaction in key areas such as energy, transport, logistics, finance and agriculture.
The parties noted the importance of developing transit corridors, taking into account the strategic potential of Kazakhstan and Oman as regional logistics hubs. In this context, the important coordinating role of the Kazakhstan-Oman intergovernmental commission, the first meeting of which is scheduled for the second half of this year, was noted.
“Oman is an important partner of Kazakhstan in the Middle East. "Our countries have significant opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation," M. Nurtileu noted.
In turn, B. Al-Busaidi, noting the role of Astana as Oman's leading economic partner in Central Asia, confirmed his firm commitment to raising bilateral cooperation to a new level and proposed considering the possibility of establishing direct air services between the countries.
In this context, Oman's initiative to establish a Direct Investment Fund for Kazakhstan and neighboring countries to realize the potential of trade and economic interaction was noted and supported.
The ministers agreed that strengthening economic ties will allow expanding cultural and human exchanges. For example, last year, the number of Kazakh citizens visiting Oman increased by 37%, reaching 21 thousand people.
In this regard, the Kazakh side welcomed the decision of the Government of Oman to extend the visa-free regime for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan to 30 days, which will contribute to an increase in tourist flows and facilitate mutual travel, opening up additional prospects for interaction in various areas.
The interlocutors also discussed the regional and global agenda, exchanged views on the prospects for further deepening mutually beneficial ties, and agreed to continue close interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
As a result of the negotiations, a roadmap for cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Oman was signed, which determines further promising areas of cooperation.
