Everyone knows the harm of drugs, but despite this, the number of drug addicts is increasing every year.
– Drugs are a very dangerous poison that completely destroys the body. Addiction can sometimes occur after just one use. The causes of death among drug addicts are HIV, hepatitis, stroke, heart failure, liver and kidney failure. At first, drugs can give a person a false sense of alertness. But soon serious consequences such as lethargy, depression, muscle cramps, insomnia, and complete weakening of the body appear. To get rid of these symptoms, a person uses drugs again, thus falling into the trap of addiction. Children of drug addicts are often born with physical and mental defects. Currently, more than 1,300 drug addicts are registered in the region. Of these, 900 people are in Ust-Kamenogorsk. In addition to medical treatment, drug addicts are provided with psychological assistance. This helps them return to a normal life, - noted Zoya Vladimirovna, a narcologist at the Mental Health Center.
According to world statistics, only one in 10 drug addicts successfully undergoes rehabilitation. According to experts, synthetic drugs are dozens of times more dangerous than heroin. On average, their users do not live more than five years.
Illegal possession and distribution of drugs is punishable by imprisonment for a period of 5 to 10 years and confiscation of property.
In the case of distribution in public places, the punishment includes imprisonment for a period of 10 to 15 years. If drugs are distributed as part of a criminal group, in educational institutions or sold to minors, a term of imprisonment of 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment is imposed.
The people most often involved in drug crimes are young people aged 18 to 35. The Prosecutor General's Office's "No Drug Addiction" project is being implemented in the country. This project is aimed at conducting preventive measures among young people, identifying resources for selling drugs online, removing graffiti advertising prohibited substances, and other measures.
