Kazakhstan and China are strengthening cooperation in the field of seismic safety

An agreement was signed in Beijing between the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observation and Research of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Institute of Geophysics of the Earthquake Agency of the People's Republic of China. The document covers data exchange, integration of early warning systems for severe earthquakes, and joint monitoring of seismic activity.
"This agreement is an important step in the development of international cooperation in the field of seismology of Kazakhstan. Joint work with Chinese partners will allow us to improve earthquake forecasting and warning. This will allow us to respond promptly to threats and protect the lives of citizens," Daulet Sarsenbayev, Director of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observation and Research of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted.
The signing ceremony took place during the visit of Almaty Mayor Yerbolat Dossayev to the China Earthquake Agency. During the event, the Kazakhstani delegation got acquainted with new developments and technologies of China in the field of seismic safety, which opens up prospects for cooperation and exchange of experience.
The agreement will allow specialists from both countries to exchange seismic information in real time, which will increase the effectiveness of earthquake forecasting and mitigating their consequences. This will provide citizens with more accurate and timely notification of possible natural disasters.
28 monitoring and early warning stations for severe earthquakes operate in Almaty. It is planned to install another 30 stations in 2025, and an additional 40 stations by the end of 2026, which will significantly improve the security system and population protection.
The agreement opens up new opportunities to strengthen seismic safety and protect citizens from risks associated with seismic activity.
