MINISTRY OF HEALTH: RADIATION THERAPY FOR ONCOLOGY PATIENTS GROWS BY 41%

In order to improve the availability of oncological care, the Ministry of Health launched 6 new network accelerators in 5 regions of the country in 2024, which allowed to increase the coverage of radiotherapy by 3.2% to 41%, the head of the department Akmaral Alnazarova noted today in her speech at an expanded board meeting.
The opening of 2 new PET/CT centers and one cyclotron-production complex in Almaty was an important step in order to accurately diagnose diseases and develop effective methods of treating cancer.
In the coming years, new nuclear medicine centers will be launched in Kazakhstan in Astana, Aktau, Kyzylorda, Karaganda and Aktobe, as well as theranostics centers in Almaty, Karaganda and Aktobe.
Also, this year, the construction of the building of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy in Almaty and It is planned to equip the hospital with a cyclotron-production complex.
These measures will ensure 100% coverage of patients in need of oncological care with PET diagnostics, innovative treatment methods, and increase the availability of radionuclide therapy.
Patients with serious diagnoses will be able to receive treatment at their place of residence without traveling abroad, to other cities, and without waiting for their turn.
