Sundsvall, Östrand, 1-2 April 2025 - as part of the working visit of the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Sweden, Olzhas Suleimenov, to the Västernorrland region (Sweden), productive meetings were held with the region's leadership, representatives of leading companies and academia aimed at developing cooperation between Kazakhstan and Sweden.

During the meeting with the Governor of Västernorrland region Carin Jämtin, special attention was paid to the region's initiatives in the field of circular economy, which are of significant interest to Kazakhstan in the context of the implementation of national priorities for sustainable development. The Governor expressed interest in expanding contacts with Kazakhstan and noted the potential for co-operation in the field of sustainable development, industry and green energy. In addition, the parties discussed opportunities to exchange experience in the development of ecotourism.

During the visit, the Ambassador familiarized with the activities of SCA AB, Europe's largest forestry company specializing in the production of paper, packaging and wood products. During the meeting, the prospects for the implementation of joint projects on deep processing of wood in Kazakhstan were discussed, as well as the possibility of introducing advanced environmentally friendly technologies in the forestry sector of the country.

In the course of negotiations with representatives of BAE Systems, one of the world leaders in the field of defense technologies and security, the possibilities of implementing joint projects with Kazakh enterprises in the field of high technologies, including cyber security and automated control systems, were discussed.

One of the items on the visit programme was a visit to Mid Sweden University, known for its high quality education, research and distance learning. During the meeting with the rector Anders Fellström, the prospects of academic exchange, scientific cooperation and participation of Kazakhstani students in the educational programmes of the university were discussed.

The working visit was part of a set of activities carried out by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Sweden to strengthen ties between the countries at the regional and sectoral levels.
