In East Kazakhstan region, two Latvian citizens were convicted of organizing a drug laboratory

       By the verdict of the specialized interdistrict court for criminal cases of East Kazakhstan region, two citizens of Latvia were found guilty and sentenced under Article 297-1 of Part 3 of Subparagraphs 1, 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan to 11 years in prison.

       Earlier, in July 2024, the regional prosecutor's office reported on the fact of organizing a private underground laboratory for the production of synthetic drugs identified by the Department of the National Welfare Fund for East Kazakhstan region, with the coordination of the supervisory authority.

       Let us recall that during the search, 125 kg of mephedrone equivalent to 630 thousand single doses, 500 liters of precursors, as well as new generation laboratory equipment that allows the production of up to 30 kg of synthetic drugs per day were seized.

      The value of the seized drugs on the black market is estimated at over 3.5 billion tenge.

      The criminal case was considered in court for 3 months. During the trial, the guilt of the defendants was fully proven. The state prosecutor directed the court to impose a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 11 years.

      Convicts will serve their sentences in a medium-security correctional facility. The court verdict did not enter into legal force.
