On March 1, Thanksgiving Day, the "Help Your Neighbor" campaign began in Almaty as part of the city-wide campaign "Almaty is Our Common Home" implemented by the "Clean Kazakhstan" program.
The goal of the campaign is to support the elderly. As part of the event, volunteers visited the home of Nikolai Aleksandrovich Taratunin, a 102-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War living in the Turksib district.
The volunteers helped the veteran with the household, carried out cleaning work and provided the necessary support, thus expressing gratitude for his contribution to victory and peaceful life. The campaign emphasizes the importance of caring for the older generation and strengthening social unity in society.
During the war, Nikolai Alexandrovich served in the border troops and received a number of awards. As the veteran's son noted, his father was always distinguished by his strong character, loyalty and hard work. It is worth noting that students from school No. 49 often visit Nikolai Alexandrovich's house, help him and clean up the yard.
The veteran is not left without attention by employees of social protection structures, as well as servicemen of the Turksib Military Committee, who monitor his health, solve household problems, provide medical services and material support.
Nikolai Taratunin's son, expressing gratitude to the volunteers, singled out the symbolic holding of the campaign on Thanksgiving Day.
As part of the “Help Your Neighbor” project, Almaty volunteers visited the house of 90-year-old Tamara Georgievna Ufimtseva. They also cleaned the yard from ice, snow, and garbage.
“May God grant you health! When would I take all this away? Thank you very much,” the retiree told the volunteers.
In addition, the volunteers helped retiree Viktor Sakovich repair and install furniture. Viktor Mikhailovich is an engineer-designer who lost his sight some time ago. However, in difficult life circumstances, he was not left alone.
“This was an unexpected and pleasant event. The children work quickly and efficiently, they are very polite. Thank you to everyone,” he said.
As a reminder, from March 1 to April 1, a large-scale campaign “Almaty is our common home” will be held in Almaty as part of the “Clean Kazakhstan” program. One of the goals of the campaign is to increase environmental culture and form a careful attitude towards the environment among city residents.
