Chairman of Religious Affairs Committee invited to visit the Woolf Institute in Cambridge

The Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Civil Society of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerkin Ongarbayev, met with the Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Religion and Belief in British Public Life, the Director of the Woolf Institute Edward Kessler.

During the meeting, issues of multilateral cooperation in the field of inter-religious dialogue and accord, as well as exchange of experience in the regulation of the religious sphere, including on the prevention of religious radicalism, were discussed.

Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee E. Ongarbayev informed about the situation in the religious sphere and the basic norms of the new bill on religious activities.

It should be noted that within the framework of the official visit of the Woolf Institute to Kazakhstan, it is planned to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the International Center for Cultures and Religions under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Civil Society of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Woolf Institute.

According to E. Ongarbaev, this memorandum will allow for systematic exchange of information, research experience and practice, as well as consultations, joint events on current issues in the religious sphere.

In addition, the head of the Committee said that he was ready to support the Woolf Institute's project titled “Dialogue and Inclusion in Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom”, which is dedicated to conducting a comparative study of Islamic customs and Muslim culture in Kazakhstan and the UK.

Edward Kessler expressed particular interest in studying the experience of Kazakhstan in the field of interethnic and interfaith harmony. He invited the Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee to visit the Woolf Institute in Cambridge, which focuses on the study of relations between Muslims, Christians, and Jews.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue constructive cooperation in the exchange of experience and interaction in the religious sphere.
