Shafiq Chokin was the author of 500 scientific papers on the development of Kazakhstan's energy: "Energy of Kazakhstan", "Scientific bases of agriculture supply of Kazakhstan", "Fundamentals of Energy of Kazakhstan development", "Energy and Water Resources of Kazakhstan", "Energy balance of Kazakhstan" and etc.

In 1996, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has awarded academician Shafik Chokin highest distinction - the title of "Halyk Kaharmany".

In his speech Almaty governor Bauyrzhan Baibek noted that due to his progressive, scientific implementation Shafik Chokin was the engine of modernizing the social consciousness of his time.

"He was the first director of the Kazakh Energy Research Institute. During the period of the leadership of Academician Chokin, the institute became one of the largest and most progressive scientific institutions of the energy profile in the country with unique experimental bases, many of which had no analogues in the world. The main scientific discoveries in the energy sector of Kazakhstan are connected with this institute. With the direct participation Shafiq Chokin developed a comprehensive system of scientific and technical forecasting of Kazakhstan energy projects channel Irtysh-Karaganda, Kapchagai hydropower plant ", - said the governor of Almaty Baurzhan Baibek.

Earlier the executive committee of Almaty city announced an open competition for the best sketch of the monument to Shokhin.
