In Almaty has been built a monument for the victims of starvation in 1931-1933
10.04.2025 16:57:36 308The governor of Almaty, Bauyrzhan Baybek noted that the monument was opened by the direct order of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. According to different facts ,more than three million people died in the period from 1918 to 1933 in Kazakhstan, including about 1 million 700 thousands were dead by starvation from 1931 to 1933. The victims of the repression of 1937-1938 years were more than 100 thousands people of Kazakhstan.
"Today, on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repressions, we are opening a monument for the victims of the starvation in 1931-1933, in order to perpetuate this lasting pain of our people. On behalf of the Head of State, last year we announced a competition to create a draft of the future monument. By the decision of the state commission, the project of Dulat Usenbayev, Aidos Burkitbaev and Kanat Beguliev was selected - the sculpture "Ana" among the more than 20 proposed works

The image of the mother holding the child exhausted from hunger reveals all the sorrow of the Kazakh people. Mother is the source of all things, the foundation of the nation, the guarantee of the future, "B. Baibek said.

The monument for the victims of starvation in 1931-1933 has been installed in the Karagaili square .It is at the intersection of Kabanbai batyr and Nauryzbai batyr streets. Three-meter sculpture of the mother pressing the child to the breast, who was exhausted by hunger is made of bronze and granite.

"Looking at her weak and defenseless son, her heart bleeds with grief and despair. The boy's thin arms and legs hang, he can not hold his mother, his eyes are closed. There is an empty cauldron turned upside down at the feet of the woman, "the authors of the sculpture explained.
