On April 4, 2025, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region held the annual Regional Championship “Skills for Geeks” among 5th to 11th graders in the competencies “Programming”, “3D Modeling” and “Robotics” across 10+ and 14+ age groups.

The championship aimed to create opportunities for the development of schoolchildren’s creative and intellectual abilities, identifying gifted students, as well as fostering their practical problem-solving skills in real professional situations. The qualifying rounds were held on 13-28 February, 2025 in all districts and cities of the region. Over 1,000 students representing 185 teams participated in them. According to the results of the qualifying rounds, 244 schoolchildren from 18 teams advanced to the final round, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in modeling, programming and sports robotics. The professional independent experts – representatives of educational organizations, assessed the competitive works.

- II place – Tarbagatai district team, Erbolat Islam. Mustafa Mansur;

14+ age group

- I place - Zaisan district team, Alisher Alenov, Aidaruly Dosym;

- II place – Ridder town team, Zakhar Komarevsky, Egor Kaloshin;

- II place – the team of BILIM-INNOVATION Regional Specialized Lyceum for Gifted Children, Baiken Asylarman, Islam Muratkanov;

- III place – Altai district team, Dmitry Lisitsin, Daniil Grislit.

14+ age group:

- I place – the team of BILIM-INNOVATION Regional Specialized Lyceum for Gifted Children, Amangeldi Aldiyar, Rinatuly Alibi;

- III place – Katon-Karagai district team Mansur, Kairatbekov.

The award ceremony will take place in May 2025 as part of the 12th Annual Regional IT Festival “New Generation”. The winners will be awarded valuable prizes, cups, medals and diplomas, and all participants of the championship will receive certificates. 

The championship concluded with the performance of the Skills for Geeks Anthem, written by its participants. The Anthem’s lines, “Who, if not me, who, if not you, will take the first step for our country?” became the motto of this event, which has already become a traditional event and in the future may expand beyond the regional level.
