Deputy Chairman of the Industry Committee Muhamed Andakov told in detail about the current state of light industry at the briefing held at the Central Communications Service. Kazakhstan's light industry is an important part of the country's economy. This industry contributes not only to economic growth, but also to the creation of jobs and improvement of the quality of life of the population.

The market of light industry in Kazakhstan amounted to 4.3 billion US dollars in 2024, of which the share of domestic producers was about 6%. The share of light industry in the total domestic product is 0.09%, in industrial production - 0.4%, and in processing industry - 0.9%. This industry employs 28,000 people, 60% of whom are women, which is a socially important indicator for the state.

The production volume of light industry in 2024 was 211.6 billion tenge, and the real volume index was 86.8%. In the last 3 years, the export of light industrial products has increased by 2.5 times. 12.4 billion tenge were invested in the fixed capital of this industry.

Light industry consists of three main groups: textile industry - 57% (cotton fabrics, wool and mixed fabrics, synthetic and natural fibers), clothing production - 34% (special and work clothes, everyday and decorative clothes, military and sports clothes), leather products production - 9% (shoes, leather and leather products, leather bags and belts).

As of March 1, 2025, 1,411 enterprises are working, of which 803 are sewing, 481 are textile, and 122 are leather products. In order to develop light industry, the main goal of the industrial policy is to abandon the raw material model while increasing internal processing. In order to achieve this goal, investments are attracted, new projects are implemented, and systematic measures are taken.

In 2024, several important projects were launched, including: production of big bags in West Kazakhstan region, geotextile cluster in Atyrau region. 9 more major investment projects will be implemented by the end of 2025, including: a wool deep processing project in Aktobe region, a cotton complex producing textiles in Turkestan region.

In order to support the industry, the "Industry Development Fund" will offer light industry projects with an annual rate of no more than 3%. This mechanism provides financing with low interest rates, long-term and flexible terms. This will help to support domestic production, replace imports, and create new jobs.

A regulated procurement mechanism is being implemented to support local production and increase competitiveness. This system gives domestic manufacturers the opportunity to receive regular orders and increases the share of domestic products in the domestic market.
