The Silleno plant located in the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark will produce 1.25 million tons of polyethylene per year. The ceremony of driving the first pile of the complex was performed by regional akim Serik Shapkenov, chairman of the board of "KazMunayGas" NC JSC Askhat Khasenov, vice-minister of energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kudaibergen Arymbek, board member - executive director of SIBUR Pavel Lyakhovich and senior vice-president of Sinopec company Wang Tao. The facility is planned to be put into operation in 2029, the press service of the regional akim reports. Speaking at the solemn meeting, the head of the region Serik Shapkenov noted that the start of the construction of the complex is a significant event in the petrochemical history of the country. This project is important not only for Atyrau, but also for our country. Previously, we only produced oil and gas, but now, on the instructions of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev, we have moved to deep processing of it. The second stage of today's construction of the gas chemical complex is aimed at the development of the petrochemical industry of our region and will undoubtedly give impetus to socio-economic growth. It will provide small and medium-sized enterprises with raw materials and contribute to the opening of new industries. Domestic as well as foreign investment is involved in the implementation of the project. The future plant has a great potential and opportunity to produce competitive products and cover domestic and foreign markets with raw materials. I am confident that the work done together will be fruitful. Let the initiative be positive!" said S. Shapkenov.

More than 20 polyethylene brands are produced in the complex, 40% of which are in the premium category. Ethane is used as a raw material for polyethylene production. It is processed from the gas obtained from the fields of "Tengizchevroil" in the gas separation complex implemented by KMG. Further, ethane will be delivered to Silleno through a main pipeline. Pipeline construction is carried out by KMG.

Products not only cover the domestic market, but are also exported to Europe, CIS countries, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkmenistan, China, Southeast Asia and Turkey.

This is the largest export-oriented oil-gas-chemistry project in Kazakhstan. Here, the transfer of modern foreign technologies is provided, and basic petrochemical products are also produced, which are the basis for the development of the fuel-chemical industry.

The first preparatory work on the construction site began with the pyrolysis plant, the construction of the plant will be carried out jointly with the EPC contractor Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain) and Sinopec Engineering Incorporation (China). 5 billion US dollars will be paid in taxes to the state budget.

More than 8,000 people will be employed in the construction, and more than 800 permanent jobs will be created after the start-up. (30%) and SINOPEC (PRC) (30%) are supported by shareholders. Foreign investment in the amount of 6 billion US dollars will be attracted to the project.
