The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is exchanging information on transboundary rivers with its Chinese counterparts to jointly fight floods. Since 2005, Kazakhstan and the PRC have had an Agreement on emergency reporting of natural disasters in transboundary rivers.

Parties are obliged to provide each other with information about floods, ice movements and phenomena. Monitoring is carried out at the water stations "Sandaohetzy" on the Ile River, "Nanvan" on the Irtys River and "Tekes" on the Tekes River. We exchange information on all transboundary rivers. These data are provided to akimats and TZD. Round-the-clock duty is organized in hydraulic constructions. "Kazsushar" and specialists of basin inspections are ready to take the necessary measures in case of an emergency," said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov. Recall that in March, the water departments of Kazakhstan and China for the first time signed a Memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the field of water resources. The document envisages strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of rational and sustainable use of water, introduction of modern technologies, allocation and development of alternative water sources, as well as exchange of experience and joint specialist training.
