The Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan, together with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has started implementing specific activities in the Aiteke bi and Mugalzhar districts of Aktobe region within the framework of the project "Ensuring the climate stability of pasture lands in Kazakhstan through agromelioration".

The project is aimed at restoring degraded pastures and increasing their resistance to climate changes. In Araltogai and Taldysai rural districts, with the active participation of scientists of the Kazakh Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Fodder Production, an agroforestry melioration system will be created on an area of 550 hectares, which will allow for the rapid restoration of 2,500 hectares of degraded pastures.

Experts have selected pasture lands and farms participating in the project. Landowners receive wheat grass and clover seeds, seedlings of shrubs (maple, elderberry, elm, pine), which are planted in pastures according to the approved technology.

The built agroforestry-reclamation system contributes to the accumulation of rain and snow water in the soil, reduces the risk of flooding and improves the condition of livestock, providing it with shade in summer and shelter in winter. In addition, the system increases the productivity of degraded pastures.

With the support of experts, a five-year pasture management plan is being developed in rural districts in accordance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Pastures". The plan includes proposals for improving pasture infrastructure and spreading the positive results of pasture restoration.

In order to involve local communities in solving problems of rational use of pasture lands, public councils of pasture users have been established in rural districts, they will actively participate in the development of the plan and monitor the implementation of activities.

The project also includes the development of educational programs on the formation of agroforestry melioration systems, training of specialists. and plans to conduct trainings for farmers.

In order to implement these initiatives, the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan and the Aktobe Higher Agrarian Technical College named after Sh. Bersiev signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the organization of a pasture field school.
