Kasym-Jomart Tokaev in his speech noted that Central Asia is one of the most vulnerable regions on the planet to climate change. According to him, global warming is happening twice as fast as the world average. The region is faced with sudden natural phenomena, in particular, challenges such as the melting of glaciers, desertification and water shortage.

- In such a complex situation, it is very important to focus the efforts of the countries of the region on one goal. At the same time, measures to combat climate change should not hinder the development of our countries. We must strike a tight balance between economic growth and climate policy. At the same time, I would like to mention that I have given the task of massive tree planting in the territory of Kazakhstan. Apart from that, the program "Taza Kazakhstan" is being implemented in the country, which encourages forest preservation and protection, formation of environmental awareness, and first of all, encouraging the younger generation to visit nature. Also, together with Uzbekistan, we started planting greenery at the foot of the Aral Sea, said the President.

According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan prioritizes regional cooperation, pragmatic ambition and international cooperation in the climate agenda. At the same time, the Head of State said that Kazakhstan contributes to global efforts aimed at supporting developing countries and considers the transition to a "green" economy as a strategic priority.

- The development of renewable energy sources is the core of our strategy. We are running one of the world's largest green hydrogen production projects. Together with the world's corporate leaders, we launched wind and solar energy production projects. About 40 percent of uranium production belongs to Kazakhstan. Considering that about 10 percent of the electricity on Earth is produced in nuclear power plants, its weight increases. Currently, our country is planning to build the first nuclear power plant to reduce harmful emissions and strengthen energy security, the Head of State said. According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, rare elements are the basis for the development of environmentally friendly technologies. Our country has significant reserves of such important minerals and we have the potential to process them. It can be understood from two things. In the last twenty years, the indicator of water supply per capita has decreased by 30 percent. 70 percent of water resources in the region are transboundary. That is why we need the support of the international community in the development of water saving technologies and smart irrigation and hydrological monitoring systems. We are ready to promote the initiative of creating the Central Asian water and energy partnership, which has been talked about for a long time, - said the Head of State.

In his speech, the President of Kazakhstan focused on the preservation of biodiversity, especially the unique and endangered species of animals and plants living in Central Asia. The head of state announced that he had decided to establish the International Fund for the Protection of Biodiversity under the President in Kazakhstan.

- There is no doubt that the transition of the countries of the world to "green" development is a great opportunity to lay the foundations of the best, clean, safe and prosperous world. However, for this, the volume of public and private financing aimed at climate change must be commensurate. This paves the way for de-risking climate change mitigation efforts, investing in green energy, and creating a profitable sustainable economic model. Otherwise, it will be difficult to achieve carbon neutrality. To prevent it, we need to redouble our efforts and expand the scope of our partnership. No country can overcome such a difficult challenge alone, - said the President of Kazakhstan.

Also, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Director of the Organization's Settlements Program Anaclaudia Rossbach, Executive Secretary of the UN European Economic Commission Tatyana Molchan, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renault-Basso spoke. spoke.
