Uzbekistan sent 12.6 billion cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan

Uzbekistan sent 12.6 billion cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan from October last year to April 1. This is 1.7 billion cubic meters more than the planned volume.
This was announced by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov. He spoke at the third plenary session of the forum in Samarkand.
"This water is used to supply farmers in the south of the country during the irrigation period. Water diplomacy and international cooperation is one of the main areas of our ministry's work. Allocation and management of transboundary waters, exchange of experience, joint implementation of advanced technologies play an important role in ensuring water security of the whole of Central Asia", - said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov. The Samarkand International Climate Forum was held with the participation of the Chairman of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the Chairman of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Also, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to adapt to climate changes, introduce new ways of managing water resources, and jointly solve the water shortage problem.
It should be noted that joint work on strengthening bilateral water cooperation at the XII meeting of the group, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov and the Minister of Water Management of Uzbekistan Shavkat Khamraev agreed that more than 16 billion cubic meters of water will be sent to Kazakhstan from October 2024 to October 2025.
About 1.8 billion cubic meters of water were sent to the North Aral Sea, which is 120 million cubic meters more than the planned volume. And 490 million cubic meters of water came to Kazakhstan through the "Dostyk" interstate canal.
