15.04.2025 18:39:53 341Kazakhstan will receive about 3.7 billion cubic meters of water through the Syrdarya River during the irrigation period this year. The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov reached an agreement on this with his colleagues in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
The 89th meeting of the Interstate Water Management Coordination Commission of Central Asia was held in Samarkand. It is planned to send 975 million cubic meters of water to North Aral. However, when it comes to the southern regions, water diplomacy is very important. As part of preparations for the summer irrigation period, we have been negotiating since last year. The water coming to Kazakhstan through the Syrdarya River is collected from the Shardara reservoir and used to supply farmers in the southern regions. Last year, we were able to fully satisfy the needs of farms for irrigation water by effectively distributing water, introducing water saving technologies and conducting timely negotiations with neighboring countries. We intend to achieve this this year as well," - said the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
We remind you that from October last year to April 1 of this year, Uzbekistan sent 12.6 billion cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan. This is 1.7 billion cubic meters more than the planned volume.
